An Interview with Tracey Skinner - Commercial Manager (Hotel & C&E) Newbury Racecourse

Q. What does your new role mean for the development of events at Newbury Racecourse?

A. It’s a brand new role but reflective of the continued commitment the racecourse has for their clients running meetings and events at the venue. We have a growing team of 5 event professionals, bringing a wealth of experience managing events with them. Race Day events will now be run within a different division so we can focus on our clients’ individual requirements. It’s a very exciting time for events at Newbury Racecourse!

Q. What’s coming up in 2018?

A. Diversity is key for the racecourse in 2018. We are restructuring the site for growth, investing in the team and providing additional resource to bring the business forward. The next phase of the Heart Space development is taking place following the refurbishment of the Berkshire Stand which will be the area around The Royal Box, creating brand new hospitality and conference facilities. The recently opened Owners Club is already booked for its first wedding this year and is looking splendid!

Q. What’s your favourite part of the job?

A. Without a doubt it’s the diversity of the venue which allows us to manage small events from 10 in the Berkshire stand to large scale conferences up to 1000 in the Dubai Duty Free Grandstand. No 2 days are the ever the same and we can be running an event with a budget of £155 and then a budget of £145k! It’s an exciting time to be here with so much investment into the racecourse and yet so much of it has nothing to do with racing.

With the train station onsite with direct links to Reading and Paddington, the venue offers a perfect meeting solution.
